1. Know Where Your Water Meter and Isolation Valves Are
This one’s simple — but critical. In the event of a burst pipe, leak, or emergency, knowing how to shut off your water quickly can prevent serious water damage. If you don’t know where your main water shut-off valve is, ask us to show you during your next service call.
Fraser Coast Tip: Many older homes in Tinana, Scarness, and Granville have valves located underground or partially buried — and they often seize up from lack of use.
2. Check Flexi Hoses Every Year
Those stainless steel braided hoses under your sink or vanity? They have a lifespan — and when they fail, they can release thousands of litres of water in minutes.
We recommend replacing flexi hoses every 5–7 years, or sooner if they show signs of fraying, rust, or bulging. We always inspect them as part of a general maintenance check.
3. Don’t Ignore Slow Drains
A slow-draining sink or shower is one of the earliest warning signs of a blockage. In Fraser Coast homes — especially those with older pipes in Aldershot, Baddow, or Pialba — tree roots, soap scum, and hair can all build up over time.
Don’t wait until it’s overflowing. Call us early and we can clear it quickly with jetting or provide long-term solutions if needed
4. Inspect External Overflows and Gully Traps
Your external drainage points — like gully traps and overflow relief gullies — play a key role in managing wastewater. During the wet season, these can become blocked or overflow if there’s a back-up in the main drain.
We often find stormwater systems in River Heads and Sunshine Acres aren’t properly separated from sewer lines, causing problems after heavy rain. We check these as part of storm season prep.
5. Listen for Water Hammer
That banging or knocking noise when you turn off a tap? That’s called water hammer — and while it may seem harmless, it can put strain on your pipework and appliances over time.
This is especially common in newer homes in Eli Waters, Wondunna, and Torquay, where pressure-limiting valves may be missing or underperforming.
6. Book a Routine Plumbing Check Every 12–18 Months
