Yes. In Queensland, all plumbing and drainage work — including bathroom renovations — must be carried out by a licensed plumber under the QBCC Act. One practical advantage worth knowing about: under current Queensland legislation, a system called Notifiable Work (Form 4) allows licensed plumbers to add, change, or disconnect plumbing within an existing dwelling and self-certify the work, provided the roof line and footprint of the property remain unchanged. This covers the majority of bathroom and kitchen renovation work and significantly reduces red tape compared to older certification processes. How long a bathroom renovation takes depends entirely on the scope of changes involved. A straightforward update — replacing taps, toilet, and other fixtures with a repaint — can be completed in a few days. A full renovation involving demolition, relocation of fixtures, plumbing and electrical alterations, resheeting, waterproofing, and retiling is a different undertaking and typically takes between two weeks and a month, depending on how the trades are coordinated.
