Common Questions about Tree Roots & Pipe Protection

Will Vaporooter kill my trees?

No. Vaporooter is non-systemic, which means it has no effect on the tree above ground. What happens is this: fine feeder roots from nearby trees penetrate drain pipe joints and cracks, then continue to grow within the pipe itself — eventually causing blockages. Vaporooter eliminates those roots inside the pipe and inhibits regrowth, without affecting the tree’s main root system or its above-ground health. It’s a far less disruptive solution than excavation or pipe replacement for most Fraser Coast properties.

How often should tree root treatment be repeated?

Guaranteed Plumbing recommends Vaporooter treatment on a 12-month cycle and backs that with a full 12-month guarantee. If the treated drain fails again within that period due to tree root regrowth, we’ll return to clear and re-treat at no cost. Properties in older Maryborough suburbs with established trees and aged clay or earthenware pipes often benefit most from treating this as an annual maintenance item — it’s significantly cheaper than managing repeat emergency blockages or replacing sections of pipe.

What's the difference between pipe relining and Vaporooter treatment?

Both pipe relining and Vaporooter chemical treatment address root intrusion and pipe damage, but they work in very different ways. Pipe relining involves inserting a resin liner inside the existing pipe, which cures in place to create a new internal surface. This is effectively a pipe within a pipe, with no excavation required. It’s a highly effective solution but is generally applied as a targeted patch repair, which makes it more expensive per linear metre. Vaporooter chemical treatment, on the other hand, is cost-effective and can treat entire sections of affected drain, or the whole system if needed, eliminating root growth and inhibiting regrowth for 12 months.
